Arcata provides student with a nurturing environment to study and explore the world around them. With a large focus on community, the staff at Humboldt University encourage students to explore themselves through learning experiences in, and outside of the classroom.
The administration staff at Humboldt realize that students aren’t going to learn the career skills that they need from sitting inside of a lecture hall. Students are exposed to the skills and processes throughout their various programs whether it’s zoology or photography and taught to develop critical thinking skills through experience.
Academics and Degree Programs
Students considering Humboldt have the option of 44 undergraduate programs that are separated into three different divisions: the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Professional Studies and the College of Natural Resources and Sciences. Additionally, there are twelve graduate programs and thirteen credential programs for students seeking to extend the education as alternatives to undergraduate degree programs.
Regardless of the type of program that is being undertaken, students are able to become part of the educational family, turning to professors as mentors throughout the educational process. Humboldt has a high focus on mentoring the students, preparing them for their career path, one of the reasons students are drawn to the quality education programs.
Financial Information
Humboldt offers students the ability to gain a quality education through affordable post-secondary education. The average costs of undergraduate education for students, not including the cost of housing is an average of $7,622, for teaching certifications the average cost is estimated to be $8,580 and for students entering the graduate degree program is $9,006. Students should also factor in the costs of housing, books and supplies as well as other miscellaneous costs required throughout the semester.
Students are able to use the costs calculator to determine the cost of the average four years of education for the student. Student Life
There are 180 clubs that are available for students to choose from on campus. Students can choose from diverse clubs that suit a wide range of interests and values – and students can research and even apply for the clubs online through the Student Life website. Popular club categories include Sports Clubs, Environmental Clubs, Academic Clubs, Religious Clubs, Greeks and other Special Interest Clubs. The student is able to take in the clubs to experience the full university experience while forging lifelong relationships.
There are just under 8,000 students attending the university in Arcata, allowing for the hometown feel in the city that is filled with quaint music and book shops, local fare and day trips that can be made from the city. Day Trips from Humboldt can have you floating down the popular Trinity River or exploring Horse Mountain to get your fill of fresh snow, there are many local day trips that can leave students with many options for exploring the local area of Arcata.
