An ultra light aircraft went down in a flood channel near the Hawthorne Municipal Airport on Sunday morning, killing one person, officials said.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department first tweeted about the incident at 3680 W. 120th Street at 9:45 a.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a single-engine Evolution REVO Air Trike, a light sport aircraft that could seat up to two people.

The agency said the pilot was the only occupant on board.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident.

Officials closed 120th Street and the 105 Freeway offramp near the scene, Hawthorne police said at 10:20 a.m.
