San Francisco fire officials said a man died Monday evening after he was rescued from San Francisco Bay.

Following the rescue off Pier 23, which fire officials tweeted about at 7:42 p.m., the man died. Another man was rescued off of the Hyde Street Pier at around the same time. That man survived. 

The rescued were unrelated, according to fire officials.
