MARTINEZ — The Contra Costa District Attorney’s office filed a murder charge against an El Sobrante man who had been arrested for allegedly beating his grandmother to death.

Sean Johnson, 42, of El Sobrante, was charged Wednesday with murdering his 90-year-old grandma, Doris Johnson. Police have not disclosed the suspected motive.

Sean was also charged with an enhancement for allegedly lying in wait, a strong indication that police believe the crime was premeditated. The charges do not detail whether Sean used a weapon or attacked Doris with his fists.

Charging records say Doris was fatally attacked on May 10. Sean was arrested later that day, after police were called to a home at the 700 block of Pebble Drive in El Sobrante, according to a Contra Costa Sheriff news release.
