Fire crews were battling a blaze in the La Tuna Canyon area in Tujunga Wednesday evening.

The approximately 1-acre brush fire had slow-to-moderate rate of spread just after 6 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters were positioning themselves between the flames and nearby homes for protection, officials said.

Sky5 footage showed residents attempting to hose their properties with water to prevent fire spread.
