Fire crews were battling a blaze in the La Tuna Canyon area in Tujunga Wednesday evening.

The approximately 1-acre brush fire had slow-to-moderate rate of spread just after 6 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters were positioning themselves between the flames and nearby homes for protection, officials said.
