As California faces the struggles and devastation from the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a press briefing Wednesday the state is also looking ahead and preparing for wildfire season amid a year marked by low rainfall. Newsom talked about steps the state is taking to reduce wildfire risk and introduced a new Wildfire Safety Division that will oversee the state’s investor-owned utilities such as PG&E that’s still in bankruptcy.
